It seems that under a systematic scheme the Hazara community in Balochistan is being targeted by our enemies in order to stir up sectarian trouble in the province. Hazaras are shias and they are of the Mongolian stock who had migrated from the western Asia and settled in the Banyan province of Afghanistan. Their mother tongue is persian and they live off three countries. In Afghanistan their population is 7. 8 million, in Iran 1. 2 million, whereas, in Pakistan it is 0. 7 million. Besides, about 400000 Hazaras live in the western countries also. History books mention their massacre at the hands of Afghanis in the 16 th century. During the reign of Amir Abdul Rehman, who is considered to be the pioneer of modern Afghanistan, thousands of Hazaras were killed between 1880 and 1901 after which a big number of Hazara tribesmen crossed over to Balochistan and Khurasan in Iran.
The enemies of Pakistan know that sectarian strife exists in Pakistan and they manage killings in such a manner that shias and Sunnis should clash with each other. . If a Shia is killed in this country, the shia community immediately suspect that the diehard Wahabis might have an hand behind his killing and if a Sunni is murdered soon after that killing the blame of his murder is laid at the door of the shias.
What is pitiable is the fact that the extremist religious element have been given a cover and protection by some men of the cloth.
A greater responsibility lies on the shoulders of the Sunni ulema who are in majority in this country to ensure sectarian harmony. Had they pulled their weight in rooting out the lunatic fringe and extremists from their ranks, sectarianism could have been eliminated from this country but, unfortunately, they have done nothing concrete except paying lip service for sectarian harmony with the result that sectarian violence is witnessed in this country time and again.
