- Under the programme, needy poor will be able to receive medical assistance of Rs.25,000 per person annually
PESHAWAR, December 15: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak launched the Health Insurance Scheme under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa “Sehat Sahulat Programme” for the underprivileged of the province here on Tuesday.
The programme, initiated with financial and technical assistance of German government’s development bank, Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KFW), will ensure provision of health cards to the needy poor who will be able to receive medical assistance of Rs.25,000 per person annually.
The health cards will be awarded in four districts-Malakand, Kohat, Mardan and Chitral- initially but the programme will be expanded to whole of the province, announced Chief Minister Pervez Khattak while addressing as Chief Guest at inaugural ceremony of the programme.
He said that the initiative was first of its kind in the whole country and it was also a major step of KP government towards changing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He assured that the provincial government will continue to support such innovative programs and will extend the program to all districts of the province so as to achieve the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
He also urged KFW to consider extension in eight million Euro Tuberculosis Control Program which had successfully covered 100% drugs needs of 0.2 million TB patients over the last five years.
The Ambassador of Germany Inna Lepel, KP Minister for Health, Shahram Tarakai, Pakistan based Director of KFW, Chairperson of State Life Insurance and Secretary Health also spoke on the occasion while the provincial Minister for Education, Muhammad Atif was also present besides other dignitaries.
On this occasion Pervez khattak also handed over the first health insurance card to a deserving patient.-PR
