The decision of interim CM of a province to reduce the monthly expenditure of CM House by fifty percent is a positive step commensurate with the demand of time. Experience of hindsight reveals that on assumption of the charge of his office every ruler promises to minimise the non-developmental expenditure of his office but at the end of the day one notices that there has always been phenomenal increase in it. We seem to forget that we have been running this country on foreign loans since long which we have to pay with exorbitant interest on them.
It is unfortunate that no government worth its salt has been sincere in finishing the VVIP culture despite tall promises at the hustings. A great deal of improvement in the law and order situation can occur if the police and the district administration are spared of their protocol duties and are directed to concentrate their full attention towards their basic duty only which is to ensure that no injustice is done to any taxpayer. They are not supposed to welcome the VVIPs and then see them off at the airport which wastes a lot of their time which they should be instead spending on the redressal of the grievances of the common man.
The educational standard of our schools would improve only if our rulers start sending their children to government schools. The condition of our hospitals would change for the better only if in time of illness they have a recourse to them instead of flying to London for medical treatment. Our railways and roads would register an healthy change only if our VVIPs start travelling in rail or by road. The tragedy is, what to speak of others, our railway minister considers it beneath infra dig to travel in rail.
