KARACHI, June 22: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Friday ordered to review the pricing mechanism for petroleum products and imposing tax.
The chief justice was heard a case of petroleum prices and imposition of additional taxes at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry. The Pakistan State Oil (PSO) managing director appeared before court. The Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction over the briefing of OGRA, PSO and other officials for surging petroleum prices.
The chief justice ordered to review the petroleum prices and method for imposing tax. The SC also sought reply from PSO, OGRA, FBR and federal government for increasing the petroleum prices within 10 days. The court also demanded the appointments record of the OGRA, the PSO and other official heads.
The CJP has asked that what are the abilities of the heads in these institutions. He irked at the differences in commission rates set by dealers. He observed that It looks as if this is all a monopoly by dealers and their institutions.
Saqib Nisar said that don’t do foolish acts from sitting in offices, the poor are suffering the consequences of these decisions. He instructed that new stratigies should be made. He remarked that the public is fed up of the continuous increases in petroleum prices, adding that the court will not spare anyone if any irregularity was found in the report.
The CJP said that it seems like the petrol pumps opened by the political feudal. He asked that why the transportation charges imposed in Karachi, who is making these policies. He added that anyone wants who impose the tax. The court adjourned the case till July 5. -Agencies
