ISLAMABAD, June 27: Senior Pakistan People’s Party leader and prominent lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said that according to the Liaquat Ali and Mehram Ali cases judgments of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the accountability court could not deliver verdict against former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Shari and Maryam Nawaz Sharif on NAB references in absentia. In an interview with a private TV channel Aitzaz Ahsan said that if Maryam Nawaz will not return back to country from London the accountability court could not deliver verdict on NAB references in absentia. Aitzaz said that if Maryam Nawaz is elected in elections she could not be convicted in absentia and she could also not be disqualified. Aitzaz Ahsan said that the vote bank of PML-N belongs to Maryam Nawaz.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that PTI candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid is also strong candidate but Maryam Nawaz could win the polls. He said that Maryam Nawaz has emerged through her own struggle, adding that if Maryam was not disqualified she could easily become the prime minister if the PML-N wins the polls. He said that if the PML-N will not secure majority she could become the opposition leader in National Assembly. Aitzaz Ahsan said that Maryam Nawaz is more likely candidate as compared to Mian Muhammad Sharif. Aitzaz Ahsan said that the voter of PML-N sees that Maryam Nawaz is standing with her father. Aitzaz said that Maryam has left her uncles behind. Aitzaz Ahsan said that it could be the desire of Shahbaz Sharif that NAB should arrest him but NAB will not arrest him. -Sabah
