The Election Commission of Pakistan, headed by seemingly sensible retired Justice Sardar, has plunged the country in chaos.
Whether this chaos is unintentional and a consequence of sheer incompetence, or is engineered and a ‘product’ of sinister designs, will not be discussed here, but it all started two or three hours after the results of the polling started pouring in during the night of July 25, 2018. At that time it looked as though the PTI was heading towards a landslide victory.
Then the RTS failure occurred and the flow of the results stopped. The PML(N) was quick to cry FOUL, though subsequently the chaos resulting from the RTS failure served only to generate doubts about the fairness of the polling and of the legitimacy of the PTI’s mandate.
The Chief Election Commissioner made a token appearance before the cameras to tell the Nation that ‘a slight delay’ in the transmission of results wouldn’t make any difference. ‘Be patient’ was his advice. “All is well’ was his declaration.
All is not well, as it has taken Justice (Retd) Sardar’s Election Commission nearly two weeks to withhold results of 26 seats— mostly on flimsy grounds—and announce that the architect of the “Seventeen-Million” mandate and winner of all the five seats he contested didn’t deserve a clean bill of health and could be given only conditional clearance for getting sworn-in as Prime Minister.
Shame on you Justice (Retd) Sardar. You have made a mockery of the Nation’s mood and pleased only the man who has been adjudged a criminal by the Judiciary and sentenced to ten years in jail.
Despite this engineered chaos, the people’s mandate Allah’s will are going to prevail Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan…
