Americans have at last spoken. They have admitted that the people of Pakistan need a government that does more than playing deaf, dumb and blind to the ceaseless drone attacks on our territory from across the northern borders,— a government that also has the desire, the will and the acumen to address their complex problems with any degree of seriousness, and to try to find their solutions on both, immediate and long-term basis.
The Americans may not have been quite that elaborate in their choice of words, but the message that has come across is quite heartening.
When you are caught up in the middle of deadly storm, any shift from your existing position is likely to sound like some kind of an emancipation.
And it goes without saying that the fate of this nation has remained at the mercy of Washington at a much larger scale than it has been at the will of its own power-centres.
If Americans have realized that Pakistan does need and deserve a government that is really capable of governing it, it should be treated as a happy development, and prayers be offered to Almighty Allah for having put some mercy for us in the minds of those who matter the most in the shaping of our destiny.
