Bilawal has billed his father as an asset to the nation and has also let it be known that both he and his father would work together and in unison to serve the masses. With a friend like him, who is writing his press statements or speeches, he certainly needs no enemies. It is about time he applied his own mind whether there was really any need for issuing statements like the one he made recently eulogising his father? There is a general perception that some hidden hands in his party who are cronies of his father draft his public addresses which he is made to deliver parrot-like. Doesn’t he know that it was the wrong policies of his father and his blue-eyed boys which had brought down PPP in the public eye?Doesn’t he understand that he would never be able refurbish the public image of his party unless he sidelined the political heavyweights inside his party who are a liability for it and also distances himself from his father while taking key political decisions inside his party?Zardari and his close colleagues who ran the show in Islamabad from 2008 to 2013 have much to live down. In Sind, where they still rule, their image is no better. It would require a lot of effort on the part of whosoever succeeds them in the next polls to clean its Augean stable.
Loyalty to one’s father is understandable but then there are other many better ways to show it. Politics is an entirely different ball game altogether and the persons who practise this art must have the ability and political acumen to correctly read the pulse of the nation. At this point in time the people are in no mood to listen to the praise of the person whose name is tarnished with massive corruption cases. Bilawal certainly misread it and has put his foot in his mouth by singing hosannas in praise of his father which to many political observers was unwarranted.
POSTSCRIPT: It is not necessary that whatever Sheikh Rashid says is a gospel truth and it should come out true but his prognostication does always provide a food for thought. His latest prediction says Zardari and Nawaz Sharif are going to put up a united front against Chairman NAB and that the prime minister would be writing his own political obituary if he allowed India the transit facility to Afghanistan via Chaman.
