LAHORE, October 7: Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Lahore for an official visit on Sunday and met the cabinet members of the Punjab Assembly to discuss the prevailing political situation in the province.
During the provincial cabinet meeting, PM Khan was briefed about the performance of various ministries as well as the progress on the implementation of the 100-day agenda.
According to details of the meeting available with Radio Pakistan, Imran Khan took the provincial cabinet into confidence over the proposed reforms in local body structure and PM housing scheme. “The PTI government will try to overcome the shortcoming in the existing local government setup and replace it with an improved version,” the premier was quoted as saying.
The Prime Minister Imran Khan directed authorities concerned to implement the Lahore High Court’s order pertaining to slums on private lands.He ordered the provincial administration to regularise slums across the province.
Members of the cabinet suggested the prime minister that the government should import used tractors to which Imran Khan assured that the matter would be discussed in the next session of the federal cabinet.
He said the new local government system would empower people and will enable them to solve their genuine problems at local level, adding that the PTI believed in Continued on page 7

The prime minister said the upcoming by-elections were of utmost importance and stressed the need to take tough decisions in order to transform the system. While expressing satisfaction on the ongoing anti-encroachment drive, Imran Khan said the federal government would extend all-possible assistance to Punjab in this regard. Later Prime Minister Imran Khan said that bringing back looted wealth stashed abroad is the only way to stabilise economy without taking foreign loans. The premier in a press conference said Rs1200 billion increase in circular debt will be observed if the prices of electricity are not raised.
The premier took a jibe at the opposition leader by saying: “I decided to hold this press conference after watching Shehbaz Sharif’s failed attempt of becoming Nelson Mandela.”
Shehbaz was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday in the Ashiana Iqbal housing scheme case.
The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, was arrested when he appeared before NAB to record his statement in the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.
“The government will give all required help to the NAB. People should know that there will be no NRO. We will take stern action against corruption,” he added.-Agencies
