KARACHI, October 21: The Awami National Party (ANP) clinched victory on the PK-71 seat in the by-polls today, stealing the Peshawar constituency from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
By-polls for National Assembly seat NA-247, Sindh Assembly seat PS-111 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seat PK-71 were held on Sunday, and vote count is underway on the former two.
Unofficial results from all 86 polling stations show Awami National Party’s (ANP) Salahuddin clinched victory on PK-71 with 11,257 votes, followed by PTI’s Zulfiqar Khan, who secured 9,854 votes.

PK-71 fell vacant after Shah Farman was appointed as Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Independent candidates Dildar Khan, Abdul Karim Khan, and Fazale Haq Kohi Damani also contested on the seat.
PTI is leading on both NA-247 and PS-111 seats from Karachi.
PTI’s Aftab Hussain Siddiqui is leading on NA-247, followed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Sadiq Iftikhar. Pakistan Peoples Party’s Qaiser Nizamani trails behind at the third spot.
On PS-111, PTI’s Shehzad Qureshi is leading, followed by MQM-P’s Jahanzeb Mughal.
Twelve candidates contested for the NA-247 seat while 11 were in the run for the Sindh Assembly seat.
NA-247 was vacated by President Dr Arif Alvi while PS-111 was vacated by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail.
Prominent candidates in the run for NA-247 seat include PTI’s Aftab Hussain Siddiqui, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Qaiser Nizamani, Sadiq Iftikhar of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pak Sarzameen Party’s (PSP) Arshad Vohra. Seven independent candidates also contested the by-polls for the constituency: Syed Adil Askari, Syed Mujahid Rasool, Shaikh Samir Mir, Tahir Ashraf Hashmi, Abdul Jalil Khan, Muhammad Ayaz, and Muhammad Sharif Awan. Hussain and activist Muhammad Jibran Nasir were among those contesting on PS-111.
President Arif Alvi cast his vote at the Defence Authority Model High School earlier today. Speaking to media on the occasion, he requested the public to come out and vote. Responding to a question, he said everyone knew why the inflation had risen in the past 15 days.
Governor Imran Ismail also cast his vote at DHA Girls’ College Phase 8. The polling started at 8am and ended at 5pm. The Election Commission of Pakistan stated that it did not extend the time for voting.
Polling material was transported to the polling stations under the supervision of Pakistan Army personnel a day earlier.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), there are 546,451 registered voters in NA-247 and 178,965 registered voters in PS-111.-Agencies
