ISLAMABAD, January 7: Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that neither the Pakistan Peoples Party nor Omni group disputed even a single account mentioned in the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report submitted in the Supreme Court on the ongoing money laundering case.
Chaudhry, in a press briefing, said that the government as per the directives of the top court will remove the name of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, but that his party will continue to seek Shah’s resignation for his alleged role in the money laundering case.
“The money laundering case started in 2015/16 before the PTI came into power. Chaudhry Nisar stopped the investigation because there was a nexus established between Zardari and Nawaz to protect each other’s corruption,” the minister said.
Both the parties want people to come on the streets to protect their corruption. We promised to the people of Pakistan that we will put the corrupt behind bars. We have succeeded by up to 90 percent, he said. “We have given a free hand to the investigators,” Chaudhry said. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shehzad Akbar said that the Supreme Court rejected all reservations expressed against the JIT report, and as per the latter’s recommendations sent the money laundering case to the National Accountability Bureau.
Akbar said that the exclusion of Murad Ali Shah and Bilawal Bhutto’s names doesn’t mean that they have the amnesty before the graft investigators.
“NAB will probe Bilawal as per his role mentioned in the JIT,” he said. -Agencies
