A news report says India has taken over operational command of one berth in the newly-constructed Chahbahar seaport which is at a distance of a stone’throw from Gwadar. After getting a foothold in Oman, Sri Lanka and Maldives, India has now entrenched itself in this sea port which is a part of Iran.
We can only hope that Iran would keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the Indians in Chahbahar and would not allow them to indulge in any activity aimed at undermining Pakistan. New Delhi cannot be trusted at all because of its poor track record in this respect. Isn’t it a fact that during the recent past it opened a dozen of its consulates in Afghanistan ostensibly to promote trade and commerce with Afghanistan but clandestinely appointed terrorists on key positions in them for fomenting trouble in Pakistan. The activities of arrested Indian spy Klubushan in the region are too fresh to be forgotten .
Can Tehran provide us an iron-clad guarantee that Indian would restrict the use of Chahbahar to commercial activities only and would not use it for military purposes in order to sabotage Gwadar?Apparently, India has constructed this port for reaching out to Afghanistan through a road that passes through Iran to Afghanistan for trade purposes which is fair enough. But there is more to it than meets the eye because Indians are quite cunning in hiding their real intention behind an innocent looking scheme or project. It is in the evidence that both India and the US oppose tooth and nail the CPEC as economy of both Pakistan and China would take a gigantic lead forward once it comes to fruition and meat of these two countries is a poison for both New Delhi and Washington.
