A spokesman of the Armed forces of Pakistan said recently that the military courts is not the desire of the Army. The fact of the matter, however, is that the common man desires that they should function till the time the country gets rid of terrorism hundred percent. Their presence is as much essential today as the early completion of fencing of Pak-Afghan border or the CPEC. Were it not for the presence of military courts, the incidence of acts of terrorism would not have fallen considerably in this country during the past three years or so. Our criminal dispensation system is heavily weighed in favour of the accused . Through legal nitpicking our lawyers, more often than not, succeed in making the courts give the benefit of the doubt to the accused and let them off the hook.
Why should one label only that person as a terrorist who is a suicide bomber? The smuggler, the black marketer, the hoarder of edibles and the person who spreads sectarianism, to mention a few, also comes within the ambit of terrorism. In China the persons who indulge in financial shenanigans are also made to stand in front of the firing squads.
It is not understandable as to why some political parties are against giving extension to the continuance of military courts. It seems that they are out of touch with the feeling of the man in the street who in his heart of hearts appreciates the handing down of stern punishments by the military courts to the terrorists in record little time as a result of which the back of terrorism has been broken considerably in the country.
