After a long break, some cities and regions of northern Tajikistan began to receive Uzbek electricity with the onset of winter cold, Asia-Plus reported.
The city of Kanibadam, the district of Spitamen and some of the neighboring settlements bordering the neighboring state of Sogd oblast today receive 3 million kilowatt hours of Uzbek electricity each day, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonzoda said today in the lower house of parliament.
“In turn, with the arrival of winter cold, the southern regions of Uzbekistan receive 17 million kilowatt hours of Tajik electricity each day,” he said. The minister said that from April to October this year, Tajikistan plans to export 2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to the south of Uzbekistan, which is 800 million kWh more than last year.
After the Minister’s speech, Tajik deputies unanimously ratified the agreement signed in November 2018 between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank on the project “Reconnecting Tajikistan’s Energy Networks to the Central Asian Energy System”.
To implement this project, ADB allocated $ 35million as a grant.
This money will be spent on synchronization of the energy networks of Tajikistan with the energy systems of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and the creation of relay systems to protect networks.
