We should not be over-rejoicing over the Saudi largesse or over the soft loans of the Emirates. They amount to Aspirin tablets only which relieve pain temporarily but they certainly cannot cure the actual disease afflicting a body. Mind you, Cancer cannot be treated with placebos.
It is beyond the ken of the common man as to why documentation of the country’s economy has hitherto escaped the government attention. Unless the filthy rich are brought in the taxation net how come government generate enough revenues to turn economy of the country around?
We won’t go far away. We will look at Bangladesh which was a part and parcel of us till yesterday. While we still dream of becoming an Asian tiger, BD is certainly going to achieve that distinction very soon because its political leadership has set its priorities right. In 1951 when the first census was undertaken the population of the then West Pakistan(now whole Pakistan) was roughly speaking 3 crore while that of East Pakistan(now BD) was in the vicinity of 4 crore. Today while our population has shot up to 20 crore, BD has controlled it considerably as its population today is 16 crore. Average age of a person in BD is 72. 5 while in Pakistan it is 66. 5 which speaks of better Medicare in BD. Unless we put a brake on the skyrocketing increase in population our efforts to boost our economy would come to a nought. We can take a lesson from BD in the industrial sector , particularly, in the garments sector.
Without stability in the law and order no developmental activity can be undertaken in any country. The BD political leadership was wise enough to crush all types of extremism in the country and provided a smooth and serene political atmosphere in the country to the foreign investors as a result of which its economy succeeded in finding its feet soon.
