Coming on the heels of the Prime minister’s directive to the Armed forces of Pakistan to pay India in its own coin should it try to indulge in any military adventure against Pakistan, following the provocative statements of Indian leaders, the press conference of the Director General
of the ISPR the other day was very timely and informative. Not only did he expose the jingoism of New Delhi against Pakistan right from 1947 he also gave a very clear message to it not to take Pakistan for granted. Replying to a question, he didn’t rule out the possibility of fencing the Pakistan border touching Iran also so that the element out to create misunderstanding between Tehran and Islamabad is checkmated in the realisation of its ugly designs.
Nature has placed us in a very peculiar geographical situation which is not only unique but demanding, to boot.
We are hemmed in from some sides by the countries which don’t see eye to eye with us on many international issues. It is not understandable as to why rulers of this country didn’t consider it essential to exercise tighter border control on the border line touching Afghanistan and Iran. Realising this mistake rather belatedly our government now has been busy in fencing the Durand Line. It won’t be a bad idea if the border line demarcating Pak-Afghan boundary is also fenced.Better late than never.
