When will the agony of Hazara community of Quetta end? It is beside the point as to who is targeting them?Is it the lunatic fringe among the religious fanatics which is responsible for the periodic attacks on them, or are our enemies from across the border masterminding their murders in order to drive a further wedge between the two sects of Muslims? Both of these scenarios are just not on. It seems that our religious bigwigs are not pulling their weight in the matter and keeping a tight rein over the religious hawks in their ranks. The religious seminaries could have played an effective role in the matter had the teachers imparting religious education instilled in the students studying there virtues of moderation, toleration and respect for the other point of view. It is the religious extremism which breeds intolerance.
If the present state of affairs persisted , the Hazara community might well start thinking in terms of migrating en masse from Quetta to some other country where they could find security and solace. We have before us example of Parsi community most whose members had to, per force, say good bye to Karachi as they were, more or less , facing similar circumstances. Their exodus from Karachi was loss of Sind capital as they were very enterprising people who had contributed a lot in the development of the various fields of life. The government should be mindful also of what has been happening in the Kalash valley where the religious zealots are forcing the natives belonging to the Kalaash tribe to shun their religious beliefs. Such high-handed methods are bringing our religion into disrepute.
