Balochistan is quite restive. On the one hand the Hazara community is being targeted with rare abandon, on the other, persons belonging to Panjab are also being shot at. It is not very difficult to fathom what is the game and who is playing it?Even a lay man or a man with the lowest IQ understand that the underlying motive of the perpetrators of these crimes is to touch off sectarian and linguistic crises in the country.
It goes without saying that fencing of Pak-Iran border in Balochistan is as important as fencing the Durand Line as our enemies have been using unfrequented paths in both of these porous borders for subversion inside Pakistan. Special developmental packages for the uplift of both the former FATA and Balochistan should be on the priority list of the government. One remembers the much Tom-tommed gigantic Tahaffuz -Haquq Balochistan programme launched by Zardari . The common man of this country would like to know its outcome? It is the taxpayers’ right to know how much money under it was spent when and where and on which types of projects of Balochistan? It is unfortunate that successive governments in this country have been making tall claims about their keenness to develop Balochistan for which hefty amounts were also announced but at the end of the day no body knows about the fate of the developmental works. The media too doesn’t follow it up with the result that the common man is in the dark about the factual position.
Let us hope that this trend would now change. A greater responsibility now devolves on the shoulders of the Fourth Estate to keep the common man abreast of the ground by periodically reviewing the progress on the developmental projects on which the various government agencies have started work or about to start in Balochistan.
