One shouldn’t be surprised over the decision of New Delhi to jack up its military budget. One should also be not amazed over the fresh Indian warning that New Delhi can stop Pakistan’s water and discard Indus basin treaty. These are pressure tactics which the Indians employ whenever they try to blackmail Pakistan over any issue.
India certainly cannot hold a candle to China in military prowess so if we exclude it from the list which other country in this region is India afraid of?All other countries, including Pakistan, are much smaller in size than India and no one amongst them pose any military threat to India. It follows then that the only objective behind India’s decision to increase its defence spendings is to browbeat Pakistan with whose existence it has yet to reconcile itself.
It is also true that there is no love lost between India and China and both of them have come on a collision course more than once since 1949. Mindful of this fact Washington very cunningly wants to exploit this Sino-Indian rivalry by pitting up India against China and for this purpose it might help assist India in the reinforcement of its armed forces also.
Pakistan will have to naturally increase its military budget in order to offset increase in the arsenal of India and this will trigger off a fresh arms race in the sub-continent.
Pakistan should knock the door of the World bank against India’s threat to stop its waters as it is a clear violation of the Indian basin treaty reached at between Nehru and Ayub Khan back in 1960s.
