The electorate send persons to parliament for making laws and not for breaking them. Two legislators from North Waziristan , Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, allegedly masterminded an armed attack on a military post a couple of days back in Datta Khel area of NWA in which a couple of security personnel were injured. They were agitating against the arrest of some persons believed to be terrorists. If they wanted to vent their spleen on it this was certainly no way to do so. Civilised methods of protests were available to them. They should hang their heads in shame. One of them has reportedly made good his escape after the incident. What is pitiable is the fact that instead of condemning them in unambiguous words some of our politicians commented on the incident tongue in cheek. Hatred of the government should not blind them to the fact that the method adopted by them tantamount to striking at the very foundation of the state.
No leniency be shown to them, otherwise, the would -be terrorists are going to take heart from it. If this tendency was not not nipped in the bud it would be well-nigh impossible for the newly-inducted police into former FATA to maintain law and order in the former tribal belt which has now been made a part of the KPK.
One would have expected that the political parties to which the two accused legislators belong would expel them from their parties straightway but since track record of our political parties on moral rectitude is extremely poor nothing is going to happen to them on this score. Why the Election Commission is silent in the matter is also not understandable?
