Our morality is at its lowest ebb. Why blame politicians only for this malaise. There isn’t any segment of society which hasn’t been affected by corruption. Army has done well to announce death penalty as well as 14 years’ imprisonment to some of its top echelon convicted of selling down the river this country to its enemies. Obviously, they wouldn’t have divulged official secrets to the enemies of this country without getting handsome amount of money. In China those convicted of corruption are handed over to the firing squad which recovers even the price of bullets from them or from their next of kin before they are pumped into their heads.
The PM has hit the nail on the head by saying that 99percent of 22crore Pakistanis are being fed by only one percent people who pay their taxes while the rest don’t and these state of affairs cannot last long. He should, however, not taken along with him a number of his ministers to Saudi Arabia during his recent visit . These persons were shown in the media performing Umra, obviously,at the state expense. All of them are financially quite well off and they are in a position to perform Umra on their own.
Our rulers in the past used to travel abroad like kings with umpteen ministers and their other blue eyed persons in attendance like the courtiers and the common man never looked with approving eyes to that practice. It was expected of the present rulers that they, atleast, would, shun this practice. It is unfortunate that the present rulers too haven’t shun many of the bad practices of the former rulers and for this they will have to pay a big price at the next polls. Make no mistake.
