The construction of a huge fortified complex spread over an area of 56 acres right in the heart of Islamabad, is by itself an attention -catching event. When it is taken into consideration that this fort- like compound is designed to have bunkers and other combat- related facilities ( not excluding intelligence equipment), we have excellent reasons to get alarmed, Our alarm attains threatening proportion when we come to know that this mysterious fort-like facility is owned by our American ‘friends’, who have as recently as today issued us a warning to do their bidding regarding the much-publicized Haqqani network, or (otherwise) face ( befitting) consequences.
A lot has happened in recent weeks to blow up the myth of Pakistan- America friendship. We should be grateful to Americans for having (themselves) peeled off their mask and shown us their real face. They have never regarded us as their friends. They consider us no more than service-providers.
We are simply ‘law-bound’ to provide services for which we are paid.
Pakistan should be the only country in the world which accepts payments from its enemy number one to provide services against her own interests.
Till about recently we had been regarding India as our Enemy Number One. Now, America has elbowed out India to snatch that ‘privilege’. Not meaning thereby that India has in effect become our ‘most favoured nation’. That is a diplomatic phrase which has no relevance with reality.
The reality is harsh. And there is not just one reality.
There are many. Among them is the reality of this mysterious compound that has been unearthed in I-9 sector of Islamabad which, with all its 56 acres, didn’t descend upon the earth from the heavens one night !
Some ‘one’ does owe an explanation to this ‘swindled’ nation. That some ‘one’ could be General Musharraf
