The rejection of JUI(F) ‘s proposal of mass resignation from the assembles by the other opposition parties the other day means that they are not on the same page with Maulana Fazlur Rehman on many political issues despite the fact that they all want to see the back of Imran Khan as early as possible. All of them are obviously licking their wounds as many of them were passed over by the electorate for the PTI in the last polls. The tragedy with the opposition is that many of its leaders have a lot to live down.Granted that the common man is also getting disappointed with the failure of the PTI to come up to his expectation hitherto but he also sees with suspicion the antics of the opposition parties which too could not deliver and ameliorate the lot of the teeming millions when they were in power so he is between the devil and the deep blue sea.He certainly wants to give full time to the present rulers to deliver and this is the precise reason why he has not as yet responded to the call of the opposition to take to the streets.
Experience of hindsight reveals that whenever the politicians want to defer a problem instead of solving it ,a committee or a commission is formed and the matter is left to it for solution. The formation of a Rehbar committee by the opposition leaders is a case in point.July 25 th 2019 will be observed as a black day by the opposition. In the days to come such pressure tactics would be mounted by it on the government .In democracy such things do happen and the government should take them in stride instead of overreacting to them as long as there is no threat to public peace and road sanctity from the protesters.
