ISLAMABAD, July 15: An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday extended physical remand of former president Asif Ali Zardari till July 29 in the Park Lane reference.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi sought extension in Zardari’s remand for further investigation into the case.
Zardari was scheduled to appear before accountability court judge Arshad Malik; however after the removal of the judge from his position till the investigation into a controversial video of him with PML-N’s Nasir Butt, duty judge Muhammad Bashir conducted the hearing of the case against Asif Ali Zardari on Monday.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced the former president to court amid strict security measures.
Accountability Court No. I took up the case for the first time since Law Ministry was moved for removal of Accountability Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik.
Zardari and other accused appeared before the session presided over by duty judge Mohammad Bashir after the axing of judge Arshad Malik in leaked video scandal.
At the outset of hearing, the Accountability watchdog’s prosecutor sought an extension in former president’s remand for the fourth time.
He said that Anti-graft body did not have any conclusive evidence during probe with the former president. – Sabah
