The cricket fever has subsided with the culmination of World cricket tournament in England and Wales the other day. Better side was bound to lift the World Cup and so it has. Virat Kohli was the most disappointed captain of this tournament as on cards India certainly looked a much better side to win the Cup this time round. He undoubtedly is the best batsman of the three most distinguished batsmen of the world today, the other two being, Roots and Smith of England and Australia respectively.
Cricket is a game of improbabilities and that is the reason why it is said that cricket is by chance.
Cricketers burnt out themselves quickly in this modern age as it is no longer confined to the test matches only as was the case before mid-1970. The shorter version of the game like fifty-fifty and twenty-20 has been taking a heavy toll on their energy and they have been becoming too much injury-prone. As if that was not enough, almost all the cricket playing nations today have started League cricket also which keeps the leading cricket players of the world engaged round the year . This is a far cry from the good old days when in some countries it was played in winter while in other in the summer . These days no body bothers about climate. Money is the name of the game.
We have a lot of cricket talent in this country. It is heartening to note that many talented youngsters who are in their early or late twenties have found their place in the national team. The PCB had better further groom them with the next World Cup tournament in view. Likewise, separate teams for test matches should also be trained.
