RAWALPINDI, August 2: : Director-General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Friday dismissed Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo’s allegations implicating the head of a national premier institution as “unfounded”.
In a post on Twitter the DG ISPR said, “Remarks by Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo implicating head of national premier institution are unfounded. The tendency to bring entire democratic process into disrepute for petty political gains doesn’t serve democracy.” The remarks by the military’s media spokesperson follow Bizenjo’s comments after the secret ballot in the Senate on Thursday.
Senate Chairperson Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairperson Saleem Mandviwalla survived no-confidence resolutions tabled against them. Last month the opposition had submitted a no-confidence motion against the sitting Senate chairman Sanjrani in a bid to give a political setback to the federal government as part of their efforts to topple it.
However, the no-confidence motion against Sanjrani failed to receive the 53 votes required for his removal. 50 votes were received in favour of the resolution with five votes being rejected. The opposition has termed the failure of the no-confidence motion as ‘horse trading’ and ‘an attack on democracy’.
For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a no-confidence motion had been submitted against the Senate chairperson, demanding he resigns from his post.-Agencies
