If Maulana Fazlur Rehman thinks he can set the Thames on fire in coming October , he is grossly mistaken. To many political observers it amounts to a wishful thinking. Neither the country can withstand political turmoil at this juncture nor the common man is in a mood to take to the streets before giving a free hand and sufficient time to the present rulers to set the house in order. Both the main opposition parties like the PPP and Nawaz League in their heart of hearts would also never want to give credit to the JUI(F) chief for leading the opposition. The Maulana’s predicament is understandable. He has been quite used to living in the corridors of power for a sufficient long time and it is for the first time that the electorate has sidelined him in the recent polls. He is still licking the wounds inflicted on him by his defeat in the last polls
In politics there is always a proper time for every work . Even a right step taken at the wrong time can boomerang on the person undertaking it. The Maulana should have realised that the leadership of both the afforementioned parties have a lot to live down. Their leadership stands discredited in the eyes of the common man. The teeming millions of the country are not going to be misled by these people who have been leading them up the garden path. Once bitten twice shy this time round in the next elections they would ensure that those persons and parties aren’t elected who had failed to deliver and didn’t come up to their expectations. Even a layman understands that the wrong economic polices of the former two governments which were elite-friendly and the corrupt practices in the high places have landed the country in such a mess that it would take time before the country finds its feet once again.
