It is a sensible decision on the part of the government to move the International Court of Justice against the various illegal and inhuman acts of the Indian government in Kashmir. There are very little options available to sort out this longstanding issue between India and Pakistan, short of a full-scale war between these two neighbouring countries in which case no body is going to be the winner. To re-agitate a case which has been kept in a state of suspended animation by the successive governments in this country during the past ten years is, by no means, an easy task and it certainly goes to the credit of the present government that it has once again internationalise an issue which had escaped the attention of the world community since 1971, to be more precise. Let us be frank and realistic. An untiring and time-consuming long political battle will have to be fought to bring India on its knees in Kashmir for which tolerance and patience would be needed. Both India and Pakistan being atomic powers war is certainly no option as it would mean annihilation of both these countries from the face of the earth.
Kashmir issue demands whole time attention. Keeping in view the significance of the issue it won’t be a bad idea if a whole time deputy foreign minister is appointed exclusively for looking after Kashmir affairs round the clock. This will be in keeping with the demands of the time. The press attaches of the country stationed in world’s capitals need to be mobilised and activated to sensitise the media of the country and keep a rapport with the gentlemen of the Fourth Estate of the countries they are posted in. They are supposed to keep the leaders of the public opinion of their host countries fully abreast of the excesses and atrocities on the hapless Kashmiris by the Indian forces stationed in the Kashmir valley.
