Though the JUI(F) chief has so many times and in so many words asked the government to ‘bring it on’, the political observers are of the view that there is many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip and his threat might not cut it It is not yet clear whether the PPP and other political parties are going to jump on his bandwagon as most of the so-called leading political personalities are either in the clinker or facing inquiries which are keeping them on their toes most of the time.
It has become fashionable on the part of the agitators of all sorts to threaten the government of either a sit-in in Islamabad or lockdown of the federal capital to press those who move in the corridors of power to kneel before them and accept their demands. The protest ors know that the federal capital is the Achilles heel of every sitting government as all the foreign missions are housed there, besides, parliament and the Supreme Court and the sound of their protest can quickly and easily reverbate at proper places. Normal life comes to a standstill if Faizabad is blocked by any mob.
The problem with some of the opposition leaders is that just as fish cannot survive outside the water they too cannot breathe freely if they are thrown outside the citadel of power. They don’t have the patience to wait till the ruling party runs out its constitutional term in office. Without holding any brief for the powers that be let us admit that this is certainly no time to distract the attention of the rulers from the grave threat which the country faces from India which is trying to find an excuse to stir trouble on our borders. Sanity and prudence demand that it would be better if the opposition put on hold its agitation programme next month as it is going to be counter productive.
