Of course no cause can be regarded as higher than that of winning peace for yourself, your society, your country, your region and in the final reckoning the whole world. It was not for nothing that God chose the term ISLAM for His final Message to mankind. And one does not need tons of evidence to state that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was able to establish PEACE in Arab Peninsula which historically is known to us as Hijaz.
But wasn’t this peace established at a cost? The Holy Prophet had to pass the last decade of his life virtually on the back of a camel or a horse, waging battles to overcome those who had stood in the way of peace. The greatest tribute to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in this respect has recently been paid by Karen Armstrong in her book “The Prophet of our Time”.
“If ever the world needed a peace-maker of Mohammad’s dimensions (PBUH)” , she writes, “it is now. He is in every sense the Prophet of our time”.
The lesson that we learn from the life of our Prophet (PBUH) is that you can’t win peace without overcoming and eliminating those who stand in its way and against it.
Precisely the reason the Holy Prophet (PBUH) did not abandon war as a compulsory instrument of peace. Remember his last command. He before his farewell to this world formed an army to be headed by Osama Bin Zaid. His command to them was: ‘Go beyond the borders of Hijaz and enforce Islam (Peace) which is God’s Will”
This may sound awkward to those who are going overboard to appease India, and to earn a ‘good boy’ certificate from Washington.
Nothing can be dearer to Pakistan and its people than PEACE. But abandoning our just stand on Kashmir to please Washington and New Dehli would be an act of sedition.
The surest way to earn peace in (and for) this region will be to stay permanently committed to a state of preparedness.
Once we lower our guard, we will be opening our arms to embrace disaster.
