JAKARTA, March 6: In Indonesia, an extraordinary summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif kicked off in Jakarta on Sunday.
President Mamnoon Hussain who has already arrived in Jakarta will represent Pakistan at the meeting.
Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid represented Pakistan at the ministerial level preparatory meeting today.
Foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia were and among those in attendance.
A statement issued by Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said more than five hundred delegates from the forty-nine OIC states and four representatives from the Quartet on the Middle East comprising the United States, Russia, the United Nations and the European Union, five UN Security Council representatives, and three observer countries will attend the summit.
The extraordinary summit, being held at the request of Palestine, will address the escalation of Israeli violence in the occupied territories, and restrictions on access to the Al-Aqsa mosque.-SABAH/ Agencies
