By participating in Modi’ rally at Houston the other day Trump has set up a new political tradition unheard of hitherto. Obviously, he wants to garner the votes of those Indians who are settled in the U. S in his next presidential elections and he, in his own wisdom thought that doing so would endear him to the Indian diaspora living in the states. Modi, in turn, has tried to give an impression to his political rivals back home that he has nothing to worry about as a super power like the U. S is on his right side.
This new Modi-Trump marriage of convenience has proved once again, if any further proof was required, that the U. S. can never be our friend. Didn’t the American president know that right at the moment when he was shaking hands with Modi the latter’s armed forces have let loose a reign of terror in Kashmir? He has now become a party with India against us and has forfeited what little chance he had of acting as an interlocutor between Pakistan and India. Let us hope our leaders would now not allow themselves to be duped by Washington any more on the Kashmir issue.
Heavens would not fall if we say goodbye to Washington. After all Iran and North Korea are still alive. They haven’t died by not kowtowing to Washington. Enough is enough. Not once but umpteen times we were taken to the cleaners by the Americans. They change colours like the proverbial chameleon. They have been using us like doormat since the creation of this country. It is our blind allegiance to them that cost us friendship of our mighty neighbour , Russia. If we persisted in pro-American policy, before long we would lose China’s goodwill too. Make no mistake about it.
