The Torkham Pak-Afghan border remained closed for two days towards the fag end of last month because of the presidential elections in Afghanistan. This is not the first time that this farce is being played there in the name of presidential election. Karzai played it a number of times and now the present so-called rulers of Afghanistan have been playing it. What good are these elections if they cannot usher in a government which enjoys the support of all the disparate groups of this land of inhospitable geographical terrain, unique of its kind in the world?
The Americans and its lackeys amongst the Afghan ruling class will have to hit it off with the Taliban in case they want restoration of genuine peace and tranquility in Afghanistan. Those who think that the Americans can subdue them with the brute force should have their heads examined.
Isn’t it a fact that but for the American support neither Karzai nor Ashraf Ghani would have survived as president even for a single day. If the U. S. decides to withdraw its security cover from the President House in Kabul the Afghan president would be gone the next moment.
What is Washington up to?Apparently it wants to wriggle out of Afghanistan but in its heart of hearts also wants its token presence there by stationing some of its marine there meaning thereby that it is blowing hot and cold in the same breath. Isn’t it a fact that it wants to maintain its presence next door to its arch political rivals Russia and China for having a close check on them?
