The Prime minister during the course of his recent visit to Beijing said he also wanted to put 500 corrupt leaders into the jail like China but the system in vogue in his country doesn’t allow him to do so. China there is only party and that is the communist party of China which rules the roost and the Chinese president is vested with absolute powers. is correct that in China there is zero tolerance for the corrupt no matter even if they are highly placed in society or government. The corrupt are made to stand before firing squad. That is the precise reason why the Chinese have, to a great extent, eliminated corruption from the high places. In contrast to China the legal system which we are following is heavily tilted towards the accused. The jurisprudence which we follow states that it doesn’t matter if 9 out of ten accused guilty of any offence escape punishment but one innocent shouldn’t be hanged.
Our courts give benefit of the doubt to the accused and let them off even if there is a slight lacuna in the prosecution case creating a small doubt. eports are that the Pakistan Steel Mills might be handed over to China meaning thereby that the government has not been able to find suitable managers to run it effectively which is unfortunate. Time was when institutions like the PIA, Railways, GTS etc etc occupied pride of place and they used to be profitable public sector concerns. ey took a nosedive the moment political interference was allowed in them. Sheikh Rashid should stop talking about running a bullet train in the country. He had better first improve upon the existing infrastructure of the railways which has aged and has completed its life as rail accidents have become the order of the day almost every month.
