There are some people in the opposition parties of this country who say that the PM had better concentrate on the myriad law and order and economic problems inside the country rather than involving himself in the mediation between Tehran and Riyadh. These shortsighted people fail to understand that, God forbid, if there is a clash between these two countries Pakistan too cannot remain unaffected politically , economically as well as law and order-wise. What is the harm if as a result of his efforts these two countries decide to hit it off?
It is the ardent desire of the common man that like Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto , the prime minister should also strive for assembling on a single platform the heads of all the Muslim countries and make them enter into a defence pact like NATO and formation of an economic union like the European Union. Economically well-placed Muslim countries can take a lead by evolving a development plan like the Marshal Plan which the U. S. made after the world war for bankrolling the poverty-stricken Muslim countries. This might appear to be a difficult task but it is , by no means impossible. Where there is a will, there is a way and time has come when the Muslim world should demonstrate their will , otherwise , many Muslim countries are going to languish in poverty for a long time to come.
Both the Iranian and the Saudi leadership should realise that the main stumbling block in the way of their unity is Israel which never wants peace in the Middle East . The earlier they realise it , the better.
