In politics timing is of utmost importance. Decisions taken at right time pay dividends. No matter how correct a decision is, if not taken at appropriate time always cause more harm than good to the person taking it. A stitch in time saves nine. Maulana Fazlur Rehman could have been handled much better by the government back in last June when he had let it be known about the so-called lock-down or Azadi March.
Somebody in the government’s rank should have advised the PM that if Maulana’s programme wasn’t nipped in the bud it can snowball because he was trying to win over other political parties too to his cause who, everybody knew would take no time jumping over his bandwagon because almost all of them have an axe to grind with the PM. His threat was taken lightly by the government and its result is before all of us to see.
The amount of publicity that the Maulana has received in the media over the past four months was never received by him during his entire political life. He was living in obscurity following his debacle in the last general election and was almost forgotten by the people. He has returned with a bang on the political scene——thanks to his inept handling by the government.
who know him inside out understand that it has never been difficult for any government to hit it off with him on any issue through political negotiation because of all the living politicians he is maleable, who never shuts down the door of negotiations and always keep it ajar. The government should have kept him on its right side and he should never have been allowed to become chummy by the PM with his arch political rivals. The bus has been missed at a very cost by the government.
