Parliament must be informed about the total expenditure incurred by the government on the maintenance of law and order during the recent Long March of the opposition parties to Islamabad. In the same manner, parliament needs to be told by the opposition leaders as to the total expenditure incurred by them on the same episode. People must know who contributed to the fund raised by them for the purpose and the names of the donors along with the total amount donated by them. The common man has a right of access to such information.
Nothing concrete has come out of the Long March except that it has satisfied some egos and given a new lease of life to those politicians who were given the boot by the electorate during the last election. They badly needed political uplift which the electronic media did provide them by showing their faces day in and day out on the idiot box. They can now build on the image they have succeeded to develop during the days leading to the next elections.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman in his own wisdom believes that an early election is going to be fruitful for his party , if not in other provinces , atleast in the KPK and Balochistan as the ANP is in disarray, both the PPP and Nawaz League have to live down the corruption galore of their top leadership and the JI looks like completing its shelf life. He might sound too much optimistic to his detractors but the fact of the matter is that today he has upstaged all other politicians whether they are with him or against him and stands head and shoulders above them in the national politics and he wants to cash in the situation by insisting on early polls.
