The recent Azadi March of the JUI(F) allegedly sponsored by the Nawaz League must have jolted the government. The rulers must revisit their policies and dispassionately analyse where it had gone wrong and then immediately repair the damage caused by them. Maulana Fazlur Rehman is now back in the reckoning and his Azadi March has given him a new lease of political life. Both the PPP and Nawaz League , no doubt, in their inborn hatred of Imran Khan did give him a pat on his back though they were cautious enough not to pull their entire weight behind him as, in their heart of hearts, they didn’t want him to become too big for his boots. The Maulana wanted their material support which he was allegedly adequately provided with.
The forces hostile to the PTI government are not going to sit on their haunches and they would continue to trouble it in their bid not to allow it to translate into reality its election manifesto and torpedo its campaign against the corrupt politicians involved in mega corruption cases.
Imran Khan’s tragedy is that though he has won the last election but only with a razor-thin majority and, therefore, he is finding it exceedingly difficult to translate into reality whatever social welfare programmes he has in mind for the amelioration of the lot of teeming millions of the country. Though he has cobbled up a coalition government but that is dependent to a great extent on the goodwill of its coalition partners who have a lot to live down. This is the precise reason why some of his well wishers want him to go for snap elections in his quest to get a reasonable majority for putting into effect his people- friendly developmental projects.
