The prime minister should have attended the Kuala Lampur conference of head of Muslim countries called by the Malaysian prime minister Mahatir Mohammad. Sending foreign minister instead to participate in that moot wasn’t a sensible step. It is being alleged that the PM decided to sit out this conference because the Saudis weren’t favourably inclined to it as they in their own wisdom thought that probably another organisation of Muslim countries is being made as a counterpoise to the OIC.
The fact of the matter is that Muslims throughout the world are greatly disillusioned with the OIC which they consider to be a toothless body which has failed miserably to raise voice in support of the Muslims being subjected to all types of excesses in the various parts if the world. The OIC is good for nothing. It is long on rhetoric and short on action. If a referendum is held about its future it can be said without any fear of contradiction that a preponderant majority of Muslims of the world would favour its dissolution and creation of an effective international organisation of Muslim countries instead for economic and military cooperation among the Muslim countries.
Mahatir hasn’t done anything wrong if he wants to create consensus among the Muslim ummah for forming an effective type of international Muslim organisation which could protect the rights of the Muslims in the world.
It is unfortunate that some countries in the Middle East have been playing second fiddle to the US and they have compromised their security and independence by allowing it establish its military basis on their soil. Their status is no more than His Master’s Voice They indulge in blind allegiance to Washington.
