Islamabad is in the grip of gas shortage, lately. It is as severe as the water crisis in the federal capital during summer. If on the one hand, the housewives are facing trouble in running their kitchens, on the other, those taxi drivers as well as car owners who have been plying their vehicles on gas kits and haven’t made alternative arrangements in their cars for use of petrol have parked their vehicles. Gas shortage is not a new occurrence. It has been happening now quite often for the last couple of years but the authorities haven’t yet found out any remedy for it.
The Civic conditions in many residential sectors is far from satisfactory and the less said about them the better. There has been a mushroom growth of residential colonies in and around the federal capital and it seems that the municipal corporation Islamabad is simply not in a position to cope with the Civic demands of these colonies like proper sanitation , cleanliness , drainage and water supply. Small wonder one hears voices coming up from various quarters asking the government to put a full stop to construction of further residential sectors , otherwise, the federal capital might become unmanageable like Karachi before long. Water supply to the federal capital is made from Khanpur and Simli dams but the people residing in the villages in the way have taken illegal water connections from these pipelines with the connivance of the Water supply authorities of the Municipal Corporation with the result that the water supply to the capital is adversely affected.
The incidence of crime is also on the increase in Islamabad and broad day light robberies are taking places with rare abandon. The performance of traffic police leaves much to be desired.
