Illegal payments

It is shocking to note that a whopping sum of about 16 billion rupees was being given to over 8 lakh undeserving persons under the Benazir Income Support Programme annually which has now been stopped after a forensic analysis of payments made under it. The forensic study revealed that the beneficiaries of this amount were all financially well off.
Now when this racket has been unearthed it shouldn’t be left at that. It needs to be taken to its logical conclusion. Those officials of the BISP need to be taken to task also who had sanctioned this amount to the undeserving recipients. The PPP has already started raising a hue and cry over it and it suspects that the government would now distribute this amount among its blue eyed boys.
It is naive to assume that poverty in the country can be finished with programmes like the BISP. It is ridiculous to think that the paltry amount given under it to the poor would enable them to have a square meal daily. The amount is so meagre that releasing it to them amounts to rubbing salt into their wounds.
The fact of the matter is that programmes like the BISP cannot provide panacea to the teeming millions of impoverished people of the country who don’t know where their next meal would be coming from. If any ruler or government wants to eradicate hunger and poverty from the country it would have to put into effect in this country the type of socio economic system which is prevalent in the Scandinavian countries or England so that no citizen is forced to spread his hand before anybody for getting a loaf of bread .
It is also ridiculous to name social welfare programmes or buildings carried out and raised with the taxpayers money after any ruler.
