Benazir must be turning in her grave over what her successors did with the distribution of taxpayers’ money under the so_called Benazir Income Support Programme. It has been revealed that instead of helping the poor of the society by distributing money to them under it,a big chunk of it was distributed to those who were quite well off monetarily. Many beneficiaries were officers of grade 17 to grade 20 as well as their spouses and their only qualification was that they were either blue _eyed boys of the sitting government or they belonged to the PPP.
After a forensic analysis of the payments made under it the names of these illegal recipients of the monetary aid under the BISP have been struck off.
It is a pity that in this country such wrong practices have been the order of the day and almost every political government worth its salt has been bankrolling its members in the garb of such schemes. Let us hope that the present rulers would ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself in this respect. Social welfare projects should never be politicised.
The common man of this country has been keeping a vigilant eye on those developmental projects which are in the pipeline as well as on those which are under execution. The present rulers shouldn’t forget that if they too followed suit and rewarded their blue eyed boys only instead of spreading the net of developmental far and wide without any political consideration their fate in the next polls won’t be very much different from their predecessors who were booted out of power in the last polls. One of the allegations against them was promotion of nepotism also.
