It is a pity that the news of the death of two prominent leftist politicians, namely, Jam Saqi and Dr Lal Khan recently went unnoticed and it wasn’t given due coverage by our media. Like Cuban leader Fidel Castro they had stuck to their guns till the end and never believed that communism or socialism have died. They were Marxists, to a fault till their last breath.
These diehard socialists were disheartened like many other leftists of their ilk over the collapse of the Soviet Union, gradual adaptation of some capitalistic economic policies by China and over the Islamic fundamentalism of 1980s but they were of the view that as long as the world suffered from economic disparity and there is a wide cleavage between the rich and the poor , the common man would always be attracted by socialism and the leftists would remain active for the achievement of their political and economic ideals.
They used to call political leaders like ZA Bhutto as pseudo_socialists who had used the name of socialism for coming into power and once they gained political power they did too little for the common man. They accused them of betraying the have_nots. They were of the view that with absolute majority at his command in parliament, ZA Bhutto didn’t do much for the man in the street and most of his reforms were chalked out and executed half-heartedly thus tarnishing the name of socialism as they failed to bring about appreciable or far reaching changes in the life of the common man who continues to groan under poverty even today.
