It is heartening to note that the Army has been fencing Durand Line at a breathtaking speed and over 50 percent work stands completed. If the same zeal was shown in future too, there in no reason why this project could not be completed by the end of the current year. Hats off to all the concernced staff engaged in this task day in and day out.
The reason why the Indian agents in Afghanistan have been still opposing this project is not difficult to fathom. This fence line is going to prove a big stumbling block in the way of Saboteurs who used to be sent into Pakistan through the open borders for carrying out sabotage activities inside this country.
The Afghan authorities have been trying to spoke the wheels of this project since it started a couple of years ago by firing at the builders engaged in the work sporadically in order to scare them away. It goes to the credit of them that they stood firm in their work which was carried out by them undeterred. The government too deserves hossanas that it didn’t take a U-turn in the matter and stuck to its gun and that is the precise reason why a great deal of construction work today stands completed.
It is essential that side by side an effective and fool proof mechanism of entry into Pakistan from Afghanistan on visa only be worked out so as to obviate possibility of entry of any terrorist into Pakistan. It would be better if the government adopts the same mechanism which the US Homeland security Authority has put into effect since nine eleven which has eliminated the danger of entry of terrorist element into the US to a great extent.
