English all-rounder Ben Stokes was named the ‘Leading Cricketer in the World’ in this year’s edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, the publication said on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old became the first Englishmen to receive prestigious honor after Andrew Flintoff who claimed back in 2005.
Stokes produced some heroic contributions last year when he inspired his team to an unforgettable victory over New Zealand in the World Cup before producing one of the greatest innings of all time to win the Ashes Test at Headingley. He was also named as the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC men’s player of the year.
England’s Jofra Archer for his astonishing maiden season in international cricket, Australia’s Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne, Essex’s spinner Simon Harmer and Ellyse Perry from Australian women’s cricket team were named as Wisden’s cricketer of the year.
Perry also named as the ‘Leading Woman Cricketer in the World’. West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was awarded as the ‘Leading T20 Cricketer in the World’.
