Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a complete ban on Tablighi Jamaat and its Nizamuddin Markaz besides freezing its bank accounts and closure of all its offices holding it responsible for spike in COVID-19 cases across India. Whereas Coronavirus cases are not specific to any community or religion, however, extremist government of BJP in India is especially targeting Muslims to advance its evil agenda. A day after BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje suspected ‘Corona Jihad’ motive behind religious gathering at Tablighi Jamaat headquarters in Nizamuddin, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leadership started a hate campaign against Muslims. Alluding to the nationwide spurt in COVID-19 positive cases, a large number of which were allegedly linked to those who attended the Jamaat event, VHP said that the whole of India is in serious crisis today due to Tablighi Jamaat gatherings.
Calling it a “nursery and nourisher of Islamic radicalism and terror”, the VHP’s Central Joint Secretary Surendra Jain not only called for a complete ban on them but also freezing the bank accounts of Tablighi Jamaat and closing down their office and activities. The questions were asked as to why were the clerics from Indoneshia and Malaysia preaching radical Islam on tourist visas not monitored? He said departmental proceedings should also be initiated against the guilty officers concerned. The other day, the New York Times reported: “After India’s health ministry repeatedly blamed an Islamic seminary for spreading the coronavirus – and governing party officials spoke of “human bombs” and “corona jihad” – a spree of anti-Muslim attacks has broken out across the country. Young Muslim men who were passing out food to the poor were assaulted with cricket bats”.
The Time weekly magazine stated: “Coming just weeks after religious pogroms conducted by Hindu nationalists left 36 Muslims dead in Delhi, the surge in hateful tweets demonstrates how anxieties over the coronavirus have merged with longstanding Islamophobia in India, at a time when the Muslim minority – 200 million people in a nation of 1.3 billion – feels increasingly targeted by the ruling Hindu nationalists”. The ruling party BJP’s affiliation of the RSS is too well known. On several occasions in the past it had been banned by the Indian government led by the Congress Party for its alleged role in communal violence. Some of the major political leaders of India’s BJP were or still are members of the RSS. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is an Indian right-wing Hindu nationalist non-governmental organization based on the ideology of Hindutva. Bajrang Dal is the political students’ wing of VHP.
From day one of its inception in 1925, RSS focused on mobilizing and strengthening the Hindutva recruits to fight against the Muslims. In 1927, within two years of its creation, the RSS launched its first Muslim cleansing operation in its birthplace in Nagpur in Maharashtra. Its militants launched an organized attack against the local Muslims and forced the Muslims to leave the city. In fact, the resurgence of such Hindu vengeance forms the foundation of Hindutva politics in India and gave birth to the world’s largest so-called NGO RSS. The sole objective of RSS is to make India a Hindu state. (Andersen, Walter; Damla, Shridhar, 1987). While M.S. Golwalker became the RSS President in 1940, he set it a goal not to fight against the colonial British occupation. Muslims were stipulated as the number one enemy and not the British occupation.
The RSS cadres consider every Indian Muslim a traitor-cum-termite and a Pakistani insider. (Ashish Nandi, 2002). For its terrorist activities, the RSS was banned four times in the past: in 1947, in 1948, in 1975 and in 1992. During British Raj, it was banned for its communal terrorism by the provincial government of Punjab in 1947. In 1948, it was banned for killing Gandhi. In 1992, it was banned for destroying the historic Babri Mosque. Since Narendra Modi – a lifelong member of RSS, became the Prime Minister, everything changed. The RSS is no more alone in its mission; the whole state apparatus, the media, the police and the army are now working hand in hand to attain the Hindutva objective. The policy of political and economic exclusivity and even cleansing operations against the religious minorities gets sanitized in the name of the democratic rights of the majority.
