LAHORE (Web Desk, Dunya News) – Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) announced on Saturday that the national hockey team will not be participating in the Champions Trophy that is going to be held in London in June 2016, reported Dunya News.
Secretary PHF Shahbaz Ahmed disagreed with the idea of a wild card entry into the tournament. While talking to Dunya News, Ahmed stated that the total expenditure for travelling to London would be around Rs 3 crore but since nothing shall be gained in response to spending so much money and participating in the competition, there is no need to send the team to play the event.
Ahmed further added that the team played quite well in the South Asian games but a loss in the Champions trophy will impact the morale of the team. He also said that the team is focused is to perform well in the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament taking place in April.
Champions Trophy event will be held between 10th to 17th June in London.
