The cowardly barbarous and criminal attack on Nanga Parbat camp in which ten foreign climbers/tourists were slain raises a few huge questions regarding the familiar official explanations given regarding the identity of the terrorists. The term ‘extremists’ with religious connotations is often used about these heartless and souless butchers, who happen to be killing with such ruthless abandon.
Those who slaughtered the foreign tourists in Nanga Parbat camp had nothing ‘religious’ about their motivation. Nor were they products of any vengeful hatred against those responsible for the drone attacks and the loss of innocent civilian lives resulting from these attacks. They are no more than paid mercenaries or hired killers, whom our real ‘enemies’ are sending on regular basis on missions designed to destabilize our society, and state, and to destroy our economy from its very foundations.
One of the targets of those heinous missions of murder and destruction is the image of Islam.
A theory is often propagated in this respect that these religious extremists are driven by an insane goal to establish an Islamic Emirate in the tribal regions of our country that will eventually take over the urban areas too. A fundamental question that ‘the theorists’ of this philosophy fail to answer is: “Can any Muslim, having genuine faith in Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) kill other Muslims with such merciless abandon, or wreak death and destruction on his fellow human beings with such murderous impunity”?
There is no denying the presence of mindless fanatics and zealots in our ranks, but this terrorist campaign against our country is organized by forces which have tons of money, weapons and resources at their command. These mindless zealots may well be used in this campaign of terror, but our real enemies are based elsewhere.
Not till we muster enough political courage to name these enemies hidden behind the well-flaunted theme of “religious extremists”, shall we be able to fight and destroy this menace.
