Afghanistan is in a difficult position. The bitter fact is that, without diplomatic support, the Taliban government is helpless in overcoming the huge challenges they are facing. The new Kabul government tries their best to convince the international community about their capability and sincerity but there is little improvement. Once again, Pakistan came forward and arranged an OIC conference for the betterment of the Afghan people. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi made it clear that the purpose of the OIC conference was to aid the Muslim countries in coming forward to overcome the humanitarian crisis that is looming over Afghanistan.
When the Taliban came in power, the international community froze billions of dollars worth of assets of Afghanistan. Although Islamabad has still not recognized the Taliban government, Pakistan is trying its best to seek out the way that can help Afghanistan. The important aspect of the recent OIC meetings is that all the members jointly demand the Taliban to provide equal opportunities to Afghan women and girls. We can see that the Taliban are trying to find a middle way to fulfill the international community’s demands. In this context, we must understand that the Taliban have a specific ideology for religious and political ideas. Day by day, the new rulers of Kabul understand that the battlefield and politics are two different things. The positive sign is that the Kabul government is ready for talks with the international players. The Taliban government has repeatedly reiterated that they shall never allows any regional or international militant organizations to use their soil. The problem is that the international community is still hesitant to believe the Taliban.
In recent past, another important development is that the Afghan Taliban have removed the fences on the Pak-Afghan border. According to the BCC, it was the first time that the Taliban soldiers had destroyed razor wire on the Pak-Afghan border. Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwary shared video clips on his twitter account where Afghan soldiers are removing razor wire on the Pak-Afghan border.
Another alarming video is of Taliban intelligence chief Dr Bashir who is the lead of Taliban security forces. According to the video clip, Dr Bashir warned Pakistani soldiers to not enter Afghan territory. Some experts say that in the Taliban, there are different groups that also have different agendas. It is quite possible that anti Pakistan forces use Taliban to create mistrust between Islamabad and Kabul. The ground reality is that peace between the neighboring countries will promote stability and progress. Tension and mistrust leads to instability in the region. Pakistan alongside all the relevant stakeholders believes that a stable and democratic Afghanistan is the only solution of all problems. Those aware about the inside situation of Afghanistan understand that India never feels comfort towards the Taliban. New Delhi believes that Kabul’s new rulers have close connection with Islamabad and Beijing, which is why they will never become fruitful for the Hindu extremist agenda. There is no doubt that in international relations, there are no permanent enemies or friends. In this context, we all are hopeful that in the coming days, common sense prevails and all the major players in South Asia conduct a responsible role.
