Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Communication and Informatics Ministry, as the advocate for digital issues in the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), calls on members of the Working Group and Engagement Group to collaborate during Indonesia’s G20 Presidency.
“To go hand-in-hand and support each other,” Secretary General of the ministry Mira Tayyiba remarked in a statement here on Wednesday. The ministry is committed to encouraging more efficient discussions on digital issues during the G20 Presidency. Three issues prioritized for deliberation at this forum are related to digital transformation, such as connectivity and post-COVID-19 recovery; digital literacy and digital skills; and cross-border and trust-based free data flow. The three issues were deemed crucial to address owing to a gap between the business sectors, both big and small businesses, and the old business mode. This is because there is no agreement in terms of data management.
“On the other hand, we know that when we conduct something, it is very likely that data exchange will occur, both within countries and between countries or what we call cross-border,” Tayyiba pointed out.
The government aims to achieve three targets. With regard to the issue of digital connectivity, they expect a common understanding of digital connectivity, an improvement of the G20 Innovation League to become the G20 Innovation Network, and the creation of an anthology of practice on digital security issues as a prerequisite for the sustainability of business activities.
The ministry deemed human connectivity as crucial apart from physical connectivity in order to transform the G20 Innovation League to become the G20 Innovation Network.
“We do know, for instance, that MSMEs have been immensely helped by digital technology during the pandemic. The same goes for startups,” she pointed out.
As for the second issue, digital literacy, the ministry expects that the DEWG could adopt the G20 Toolkit for Measuring Digital Skills and Digital Literacy, create anthologies and policy recommendations to garner vulnerable groups’ participation in digital economy, and develop regulatory frameworks and best practices in digital literacy and skills.
Finally, for addressing the third issue, they expect the adoption of best practices for data management and policy recommendations for the use of digital identities.
